Challenge
The cargo to be moved was extremely heavy with three diesel generator sets of 200 tons each, three alternators at 45 tons each, three dumpers at 42 tons each, a transformer of 65 tons and a bulldozer of 50 tons.
These items had a total weight of about 1000 tons, and spanned 4500 cubic meters. The weight and the sheer size of these items made the transportation through village roads in India a challenge to be overcome.

Solution
Transportation of the heavy Diesel Generator Sets was done on twelve hydraulic axles. This movement was executed by a team of twenty people. All necessary road and electricity permissions were taken well before moving these giant pieces. The village roads were very narrow with small, old bridges. These were filled with sand bags to avoid any damage by the heavy load.
We were careful of the route and the movement of other people and cars on the road. We had to stop and wait four times at en route villages to let local traffic pass. The cargo could only be moved in the morning hours at low traffic, after which we would wait till the next morning to continue. The full cargo was successfully loaded on board the ship from Vizag port and was delivered in Lome to the satisfaction of the customer.

Advantage
The 150 km stretch from the factory to the port yard through narrow Indian village roads was crossed in two days time instead of the expected five days, even with consideration of the rainy season. LCL executed this difficult project with the detailed planning and co-ordination of an international supply chain manager. From loading the machinery, movement across difficult terrain, customs clearance and ocean freight to delivery, our customer was satisfied at every level of the project.
